Mark Allison's Run across the USA. www.rungeordierun.com
In 2011, true Geordie Mark Allison is attempting to run 3100 miles across America. Our aim is to prepare him, both physically and mentally, to achieve this incredible goal.
Previous runs and chosen charities
Mark is a 37 year old fanatical Newcastle United fan, living in Shotley Bridge with his wife Katy and son Jack. He has completed numerous Great North Runs, London and New York Marathons, as well as completing the coast to coast cycle route. Last year he achieved his greatest goal, running from John O'Groats to Lands End (874 miles). Touching on a marathon a day for 5 weeks, this is a truly phenomenal effort! However, I think Mark will agree that his greatest ever run was a match day lap of honour around St James' Park to acknowledge this achievement!!
Over the years Mark has raised more than £50,000 for St Benedict's Hospice, a charity very close to his heart after losing both his parents at a young age. He saw first hand the remarkable work this charity does for long term illness sufferers and has certainly donated a huge amount of his own time and effort in aid of the hospice. He now has a son Jack and this has inspired him to raise funds for another great local charity, The Children's Foundation.
This time round he is hoping to raise at least £50,000 for the 2 charities.
What he's trying to achieve with our help
Mark is aiming to run from the west to the east coast of America in the summer of 2011. He intends to cover an average of 31 miles per day for 100 days - a truly mind blowing goal. Our aim is to ensure that he's in peak condition for the run, both physically and mentally, to give him the greatest chance of achieving his ambition while raising as much money as possible. A County Durham man is planning to take on the challenge of a life time running across the USA. Mark Allison has already run the eight hundred miles from John O'Groats to Lands End and is now planning to run more than thirty miles a day for a hundred days.
