Ultra runner Mark Allison had a helping hand from the US state police when he met a surging river on his American quest.
Faced with raging floods, a force trooper was called on to get him over the only safe crossing of the giant Missouri River.
Mark, from Shotley Bridge was on day 67 of his epic journey of 3100 mile in 100 days.
As he crossed the bridge he was met by his personal trainers and mentors David Fairlamb and Mark Fleming who had flown out to Indionapolis to run with him.
Completion of this epic journey will make Mark the first Geordie to complete the trans-America run.
