Dr Amelia Lake has an extensive range of experience as a qualified dietitian and public health nutritionist. Her work as a nutritionist has taken on more relevance as society, globally, suffers an obesity epidemic, which is putting increasing pressure on health services. Educating the public about healthy eating has become increasingly important, and Amelia has done this through national and international forums which include counselling individuals, working with the media, public lectures and training sessions for professionals.
Having worked with a range of audiences from the public through to academics, Amelia has produced various training programmes and related material. As well as working with individuals, Amelia’s clients have included Everyday Sport (Sport England), magazines and newspapers (The Evening Chronicle & The Journal).
Amelia has coached GPs and nurses on behavioural change counselling techniques with regard to patients' eating and lifestyle habits. As well as academic writing (article on Food Shopping Habits & article on Obesogenic Environments), Amelia is on the editorial board for ‘Complete Nutrition’ (download a pdf of the magazine with an article on Nuts by Amelia) as well as being a regular contributor and writes a monthly research column for the magazine Network Dietitian.
Amelia is a registered expert with the Science Media Centre, British Dietetic Association and Newcastle University Press Office, and is regularly contacted by the media to give comments about topical health stories.
Amelia’s TV experience includes: BBC National News, BBC News 24, BBC Newcastle, Tyne Tees Television, UTV.
Her radio experience has included international, national and local stations such as BBC 5 Live, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Newcastle & Ulster, Metro, Century.

Qualifications
Amelia graduated with a first class honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1999 and was awarded a PhD from Newcastle University in 2004.
Amelia is registered with the Health Professions Council, is a full member of the British Dietetic Association (www.bda.uk.com) and the Nutrition Society (http://www.nutritionsociety.org)
Other ventures
As well as working with David Fairlamb and his team, Amelia is collaborating with chef Andy Drape on a nutritionally led recipe website - The New Going Out to be launched later in the year.
